Affton Hockey, in partnership with the St. Louis Blues 14 Fund, is proud to present the Affton Hockey Scholarship!  Eligible families can receive scholarship funds to apply directly towards registration fees due to the Affton Hockey Club.  This scholarship is made available through generous initiatives of the St. Louis Blues 14 Fund.  Below is all the information pertaining to the scholarship program.  Questions can be directed to the program administrator, Brian Gardner, at bmg6481@att.net.

How to Receive Scholarship

• Complete application
• Submit completed application to Brian Gardner (bmg6481@att.net)
• Due date: September 30
• Selection will be done by a sub-committee of the Affton Board of Directors

Application Process

• Applications are available August 1-September 30
• Can only be applied to current “regular” season registration fees
• Applicants must register with Affton Hockey by the required deadline
• After initial payment is made, no additional payments are required until after the application is reviewed and a decision is made
• If initial payment is unable to be made, please contact the Affton Hockey Office Manager to register
• After registering with Affton Hockey, the Scholarship Application can be completed and submitted
• After decisions are made regarding all applications, applicants will be notified of outcome
• Those who are awarded scholarships will be given instructions on how to complete any payments due not covered by the scholarship
• Those who are not awarded scholarships will be instructed to begin to make necessary payments to cover registration fees

Scholarships Available

• A total of $2,000 is available for scholarships

Criteria for Scholarship

Affton Hockey Scholarships are intended to players pay a portion of their registration fees.  To be eligible for a scholarship, applicants must fall within one of the following five categories of need:

• Financial need: family’s annual income falls within the guidelines below (Affton Hockey reserves the right to request a copy of tax returns as proof):
• Based on free & reduced lunch guidelines for area school district:

For family units with more than 8 members, add $6,919 for each additional member to meet 200% of the poverty guideline

• Financial hardship due to loss of job: if one or both parents of a player(s) loses their job and financial hardship can be described, a family may be eligible for the scholarship.
• Financial need due to death in family: if a family experiences a death of a member that results in financial hardship on the family, the family may be eligible for the scholarship.
• Financial need due to disability/injury: if one or more of the family’s providers becomes injured or disabled resulting in loss of work and/or wages and financial hardship results, the family may be eligible for the scholarship.
• Financial need due to other hardship: Affton Hockey wants to reserve room for the “unknown” financial hardships that may result in a family’s need for assistance to continue playing hockey.  If a family can outline this hardship, it may be eligible for the scholarship.

Other required criteria to be eligible for the scholarship are:

• Active volunteers in the organization
• Participation in Affton Hockey fundraisers
• Selling ads for annual year book
• Participation in Pizza Day
• Must be in good financial and behavioral standing with the organization
• Family cannot have any outstanding fees from previous years/sessions; this money can only be applied to current year/session

Requirements/Additional Information

• Scholarship money will automatically be applied to player’s Affton account
• The scholarship money MUST be used for registration fees
• Must be an active volunteer in the organization as defined by the Affton Board of Directors
• Scholarship funds can only be applied to “regular” season registration fees
