Introduction to Hockey - Ages 3-12

Learn to Play is run by our highly experienced LTP staff and introduces kids to the sport of hockey. No skating experience is necessary to participate in this program. Our certified, on-ice coaches help kids learn the basics of hockey, including skating, stick handling, passing, and shooting skills. Learn-to-Play skates are every Sunday afternoon, beginning on November 3, 2024 and concluding on Sunday, January 26, 2025 for a total of 13 weekends.

Full gear is required for Learn to Play. Equipment may be purchased locally from Pure Hockey or Play It Again Sports. Affton Hockey also offers an equipment rental program. Rental equipment is free, but a deposit of $150 is required. The check will not be cashed unless the rental equipment is not returned at the end of the session. 

Players receive:

Affton Americans Development Model (ADM)

Affton’s 6U Mite ADM program closely follows the guidelines set forth by the American Development Model (ADM) provided by USA Hockey. Our objectives include nurturing a love of the game at an early age and emphasizing fundamentals including skating, stick handling, passing and shooting. Station-based practices are utilized to maximize learning and to capture the attention of our young boys and girls. Games are played on a cross-ice rink against other local organizations.

The season consists of:

  • 24 Practice ice touches
  • 10 Game ice touches
  • 4 Tournament jamborees (4 games or 2 hours per Jamboree. All Jamborees are local and include Blue Note Cup Festival and Affton St. Patrick’s Day Jamboree) 
  • 2 Game jerseys & one pair of socks

  • 18 Game ice touches
  • 4 Tournament jamborees (4 games or 2 hours per Jamboree. All Jamborees are local and include Blue Note Cup Festival and Affton St. Patrick’s Day Jamboree) 
  • 2 Game jerseys & one pair of socks

Affton Americans Club Hockey - Ages 9-14

Competitive hockey for all experience levels, ranging from beginner to advanced hockey. Games versus local organizations as well as a few out-of-town tournaments. Approximately 60 home ice touches in addition to MO Hockey away games, playoffs and miscellaneous practice & tournament games. Also included is 20 hours of off-ice training with a certified personal trainer and Rapid Shot instructor.

Players are evaluated and placed on age-appropriate Affton Americans teams based on skill level. All teams have regular practices and compete in the Missouri Hockey Youth League.  Evaluations take place in August and the season runs through March.

Affton Americans Midget AA Club Hockey - Ages 15-18

Hockey for Midget aged players interested in playing in a more competitive environment with other local organizations as well as an out-of-town tournament or two. Approximately 25 home ice touches in addition to MO Hockey away games, playoffs and miscellaneous practice & tournament games. Tryouts take place in July and the season runs through March.

Central States Hockey

Central States teams participate in the Chicago-based CSDHL, an elite Tier II league of teams administered by the Amateur Hockey Association of Illinois. This program offers players the opportunity to compete against the best youth hockey teams in the Midwest. Players receive skilled coaching, extra practices and games, and compete in high-level tournaments. For more information visit the CSDHL website at www.csdhl.org.

St. Louis Eagles teams receive multiple ice touches weekly in addition to CSDHL away games, playoffs, and miscellaneous practice and tournament games.  Practices begin in August and continue through March. Teams receive goalie instruction throughout the season. Players receive home and away jerseys, practice jerseys, player gloves, equipment bags, and apparel as part of the registration fee. 

Affton Hockey, Meramec Hockey, and Southern Illinois Hockey comprise the South Pod of the CSDHL. This  approach to Central States was designed by Missouri Hockey and also includes a North Pod (St. Peter’s and Twin Bridges) and a Central Pod (Chesterfield, Kirkwood, Rockets). Each pod will have closed-border Central States teams participating in the CSDHL.

For the 2024-25 season, the South Pod, named the St. Louis Eagles, has teams at U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, and U14. Tier III Junior A Hockey (NA3HL)

The St. Louis Jr. Blues are a Tier III Junior A ice hockey team in the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL). Every season the team features players from around the United States and Europe. The team is based at the Affton Ice Rink, 10300 Gravois Road. Game tickets are $6 at the door and children ages 6 and under are free. A full concession stand is available.

The St. Louis Jr. Blues organization has been part of St. Louis hockey for more than 30 years and has won five USA Hockey National Championships. Notable alumni include current and former NHL players Paul Stastny, Brandon Bolig, Chris Butler, Joe Vitale and Cal Heeter.
